Town of Cortlandt government seeks laborers in the Department of Environmental Services. The position performs routine manual laboring work in the divisions of the Department (Sanitation, Parks, Highway, Water and Central Buildings) Performs routine cleaning, maintenance & repair assignments; Loads & unloads materials (refuse and recycling) from trucks; Receives and/or moves supplies, equipment, & furniture; Cleans & operates equipment supplies in accordance with defined procedures; Rods & flushes sewers & cleans manholes & catch basins; Digs & refills trenches for water lines; Rakes leaves & hauls away rubbish; Does rough cement finishing, rakes asphalt, sets forms for asphalt, does rough grading & assists in street maintenance activities; Performs snow removal duties. Candidates must be physically able to perform manual labor tasks requiring heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs) and standing for long periods of time. Work assignments will be primarily outdoors regardless of weather conditions and must have a valid NYS driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract. Must complete a pre-employment drug test, physical and background check in order to be considered for employment.
