American Red Cross Babysitting Course (Ages 11 -15) 

The ARC babysitter’s Training course is designed to provide youth with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe, help children behave and learn about basic child care as well as basic first aid. This fun and highly interactive training will keep youth engaged and allows for hands on practice with use of child care dolls and manikins. Successful participants earn ARC certification.
Please bring water and a snack.

Battleship Encounter

Grab a friend and head down to the YC for a friendly but competitive competition of battleship. Winners will play each other until one person is crowned the Battleship Champion!

Crafty Tops Competition

Old-school fun at the YC. Design your very own wooden top spinner in the Arts & Crafts room, take some time to practice using it and then enjoy a friendly competition to see whose top spins the longest, looks the coolest and more!

Friday Night Mic 

An Open Mic Night where you can healthfully express yourself. All forms of expression are allowed within respectful reason. Celebrate your talent and skills with you peers, NO JUDGEMENT, just RESPECT and LOVE! Whether you are a dancer, singer, poet, artist, musician or comedian, everyone gets a chance to be heard, seen or just BE themselves.

Grand Central Station Tour 

Meet us at the Cortlandt Train Station as we venture into Grand Central Terminal to take an audio tour of the famous station!  The tour focuses on the architectural highlights, little known secrets, history and so much more! Enjoy an afternoon of exploration; a perfect winter break activity.  Youth must bring a bagged lunch or money for lunch. Spaces limited.

This program will provide each child with the essentials needed when they are home without adult supervision. Discussion will cover first aid, telephone and door answering, activity plans, encountering emergencies and more!

Mrs. G's Craft Corner

Join Mrs. G in the arts and crafts room for some fun and exciting projects! Pre-registration required; space is limited.

Musical Theater Workshop (Grades 2nd – 8th)

Attention: Singers and actors! Immerse yourself in the world of theater! This workshop is for everyone from the student acting for the first time, to the seasoned performer. This program takes the students from the audition process to a final performance everyone will enjoy. Not only will this workshop be a source of fun and excitement but it will also increase the skill level of every student; whether their goal is to become a professional actor or use the workshop to have fun and develop life skills. The production is done with some costumes, props and minimal sets. All youth will have a role to play, will receive a script adapted to the students and will be taught the music they need to perform their role. The results will be a wonderful final performance on Friday at 1:00 PM for family and friends. Limited to 25 youth. Many fun roles to play!

In the event of inclement weather, this program could have a delayed start or be cancelled. If a delayed start is issued, the program would still run for 6 hours, going later into that day. If a cancellation becomes necessary, the makeup day would be Saturday.

Operation Snowflake Program (Ages 11 - 18)
  • The Town of Cortlandt is seeking youth ages 11 - 18 to shovel the driveways, pathways and sidewalks for the Town's Senior Citizens this winter season.
  • Youth will be paid $8.00 per hour.
  • Application is due Tuesday, October 10th
“Sketch-2-Masterpiece” Drawing Competition

Like to sketch? Do you doodle often and everyone tells you how good you are? Would you like to challenge yourself with other artists? Then sign-up for this creative competition! There will be two rounds, you can participate in one or both. Round 1: “Speed Sketch” 20 minutes. Round 2: “Masterpiece” 1 hour 30 minutes. In each round you can choose from the following categories: Realistic, Cartoon or Pattern. All work will be done on paper in regular pencil (materials provided). Drawing supplies will be awarded as prizes to the top winners in each round.

“To Serve and Be Served” Fine Dining Skills & Etiquette

Ever go to a fancy restaurant or holiday party and wonder what the extra dishes and silverware on the table are used for? Want to learn more about how to properly “dress” a table? This course will teach you how to properly set a table, serve and entertain your guests. You will get to be served too! Dinner is included. Dress attire: semi-formal. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn life skills which can be applied at home or to future employment opportunities.
