Cortlandt Fiber Arts: Marilyn Bottjer

Release Date: January 04, 2024

In its final month, Cortlandt Fiber Arts: A Contemporary Survey explores contemporary trends in fiber-based works. Marilyn Bottjer’s St Thriftilla, 2023 is the perfect work to ring in the New Year with. Crafted from upcycled fabrics ranging from t-shirts to tea towels and combined with new materials Marilyn transforms the discarded materials beyond their original purpose. The result is a work that displays Marilyn’s technical skill as a fiber artist, but also serves as an inspiration to seek out creative solutions.

“I have been a traditional rug hooker for over 50 years. I have taught at the American Folk Art Museum, Brookville Craft Center in Connecticut, Croton Cortlandt Center for the Arts, and have led the Hudson River Rug Hookers centered in Croton for 30 years. Exhibiting widely in the USA, Canada, and Japan my work has been published in fiber arts books, seen on TV and is in private collections.” - Marilyn Bottjer

To inquire about Marilyn Bottjer’s work, please email: art@townofcortlandt.com. To view her works and other great fiber pieces stop by Town Hall! Cortlandt Fiber Arts: A Contemporary Survey is on view though Feb. 1, 2024.
