Town of Cortlandt – PT – Quarterly Position
The Town of Cortlandt is seeking an Art Curator to manage a new program to display art in the Cortlandt Town Hall. The town is accepting art submission from Town residents in 2D format – photographs, paintings and tapestries. This person will be responsible for selecting works, selecting the placement of the art pieces, writing labels, coordinating with the artist and other content supporting art exhibitions. This position works in coordination with the Town Supervisor and Members of the Town Board to display items appropriate to a public municipal building.
Art Curator Duties and Responsibilities
As part of their regular duties and tasks, an art curator may perform some or all of the following:
- Select art exhibits on a quarterly basis.
- Assist with the placement of art pieces in the Town Hall
- Manage collections by recording and cataloging artwork and items in collections
- Develop, plan, and execute exhibition
- Plan the presentation and installation of artwork and objects
- Create labels and interpretive materials for artwork
- Assist with the advertisement of the art exhibits on our social media channels.
- Interact with local school districts to solicit student artwork
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in art or art history and three to four years of experience in a museum or gallery environment. This is a quarterly position that will be paid $1,000 per quarter.
