Budding Artist: Margaret Walsh
Continuing the celebration of the local student artists, grades: K-12, from Budding Artists, currently on view at Town Hall through May 4th. Today’s featured artist is 5th grader, Margaret Walsh.
One of the amazing qualities of visual art is the power to manifest an idea without language, a symbol in place of words. Visual art does not require that we speak the same language. It allows us to stand before an image with our own unique experiences and histories to arrive at an understanding of what is in front of us. Some viewers will approach Margaret’s work and read it as carefully rendered flower, a bold and graphic expression of a three-dimensional object in two-dimensional space. Others will take in the totality of the work, image and title, and read it as a reflection of Margaret’s understanding of the world and time she lives in. These readings are only two of the many possible and one does not negate the other. However, all readings require the viewer’s engagement with a work to emerge.
