Towards Abstraction Artist: Diana Kogos
This week we are pleased to feature the artists from the recently opened exhibition, Towards Abstraction. The works are currently on view at Town Hall. We encourage everyone to stop by and enjoy the works of our community members.
Abstraction in art can challenge a viewer. Often there are no recognizable images, just the paint, canvas, and all the formal decisions an artist makes to develop a final composition, which is not say the works have no grounding in the physical world. Diana Kogos’s works are intimately tied to her experiences and understanding of the natural world. Her works seek to translate her knowledge of the oceans and to communicate her feelings on a landscape that many of us rarely experience.
These two pieces are a part of the series that bring awareness to the beauty, fragility, and vulnerability of the coral reefs. A scuba diver with 27 years of experience, I have seen firsthand the damage human actions cause to coral reefs. We stand to lose these heavens of life and tranquility if we don't work together to protect them. – Diana Kogos
