Cortlandt Fiber Arts: Helen Honczak
Cortlandt Fiber Arts: A Contemporary Survey, explores contemporary trends in fiber-based works. Needle felting is a process that shapes wool roving into forms through repetitive punctures with a special needle. Under Helen Honczak’s hand the wool roving takes the delightful forms of holiday figures and precious scenes executed with care that is the hallmark of a handcrafted object. Her use of fiber to fashion the figures also brings a warmth to her work that is often missing from commercially produced objects.
To inquire about Helen Honczak’s works, please email: art@townofcortlandt.com and to take in all of Helen’s works and great fiber works by other artists, Cortlandt Fiber Arts: A Contemporary Survey is on view at Town Hall though Feb. 1, 2024.
“I was introduced to needle felting 4 years ago and love it. I do it in my spare-time. Handcrafted makes each one unique. I also do Pysanky, which is a batik egg art.” - Helen Honczak
