Cortlandt Fiber Arts: Jennifer Larrabee
Now in its final days, Cortlandt Fiber Arts: A Contemporary Survey explores contemporary trends in fiber-based works. A common theme amongst this exhibition’s artists is the repurposing of discarded materials. Working with fiber expands an artist’s potential to bestow new context, meaning, and value to often overlooked materials. In Jennifer Larrabee’s hands, the denim of jeans is transformed into abstract compositions that highlight and juxtapose the variety of hues of the material over the material’s original function.
“I love fun, vibrant colors, and I find it hard to throw away even the smallest scrap of fabric. So you’ll find that my work is full of bold, colorful prints, and/or lots of scrappy bits sewn together. It makes me happy to make something out of a lot of random pieces.” - Jennifer Larrabee
