Artists Choose Artists Exhibition: Jennifer Larrabee and Marlo Richards
Currently on view at Town Hall the exhibition Cortlandt Artists Choose Artists explores the influence of an artist’s network on their studio practice. Cortlandt based fiber artist, Jennifer Larrabee selected Marlo Richards as her artist peer. Together they worked to create pieces that were a response to the other’s work for the exhibition.
“As a quilter, I love playing with colors, patterns, and small scrappy bits of fabric, but I've always felt there was more that I could do, outside of "traditional" quilting. Marlo was one of the people who encouraged me to explore the "fine art" side of "Fiber Art", and her artistic journey, though different from mine, has been an inspiration to me. I am excited by this opportunity to blend our artistic interests and to create complementary works.” – Jennifer Larrabee
“I create whimsical, nature inspired artwork with a non-traditional, highly saturated ink on synthetic paper. I use a combination of liquid ink and markers in order to develop movement and depth as well as fine detail in each piece. The result is art that seems to pop off the page. Jen has an incredible ability to put colors and patterns together in a way that is both balanced and beautiful. I’ve always admired her work and am especially inspired by her art quilts. Each one is so unique and tells its own story. I am honored to pair up with her for this exhibition.” – Marlo Richards
