Lake Meahagh Rehabilitation
In an effort to address the ongoing weed and algae growth and overall health Lake Meahagh, the Town of Cortlandt has hired an environmental consultant - Stephen Coleman who made several suggestions including the significant lowering of the lake level during the winter months.
The Town has lowered the lake in mid-January, 2007 and we are hopeful this will help "freeze off" many of the nutrients which allows for the growth of the weeds in the lake.
We expect that the Lake will rise to regular levels in the Spring and we are hopeful that this effort will better control the problems. Also, the Town is exploring the use of an aeration system to further assist with these issues.
