The message is simple: Smell gas, act fast. The videos cover signs of a potential gas leak and what to do; most importantly:
- Leave your home immediately and take others with you;
- Open windows before you leave if the odor is faint;
- Do NOT do anything to create a spark, such as lighting a match, turning appliances on or off, or using a phone or cell phone.
Con Edison operates approximately 4,300 miles of natural gas mains in Manhattan, the Bronx, parts of Queens, and Westchester County. The company inspects and monitors the system for potential gas leaks throughout the year.
Con Edison is a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc. [NYSE: ED], one of the nation’s largest investor-owned energy companies, with approximately $12 billion in annual revenues and $41 billion in assets.
