FDR V.A. Pool Re-Grand Opening
Victory for our Veterans
- the V.A Hospitals’ Pool is Open for Veterans Use –
On Monday, August 27th, I attended the Re-Grand Opening of the FDR VA’s Veteran’s Pool. This Olympic size pool, which has been closed for 15 years, was finally opened today after a two year construction period.
Myself along with our Veteran’s Chairman and Committee, Town Board members and other officials have lobbied the Veteran’s Affairs in Washington, DC for years requesting that they invest in the restoration of this pool for our Veterans.
Yesterday was the ribbon cutting and I was delighted to be asked to say a few words on the program by the V.A. Director Margaret Caplan. Special thanks to Congresswoman Nita Lowey, who was able to get federal funding through her position as the ranking member of the Appropriations Committee (approximately 2 million). We thank her for these efforts.
This pool is therapeutic for our Veterans and they can use it for exercise and recreational purposes, as well.
We were told that many other new programs are coming to our V.A. facility for our Veterans. It is a great day for our Veterans and well deserved!
