ROUTE 6/202 (GOAT TRAIL) CLOSURE PLANNED, WESTCHESTER COUNTY
Motorists are advised that US Route 6/State Route 202 (Bear Mountain Bridge Road/Goat Trail) between Route 9D (at the Bear Mountain Bridge) and Route 9 (Annsville Circle) is scheduled to be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, beginning Tuesday, August 28, through Thursday, August 30, while crews perform maintenance activities, weather permitting.
Motorists should follow the posted detour, but expect delays and plan accordingly.
The detour for eastbound motorists will include traveling north on Route 9D to Route 403 east to Route 9 south to Annsville Circle.
The detour for westbound motorists will include traveling north on Route 9 to Route 403 west to Route 9D south to the Bear Mountain Bridge.
Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay close attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
Recently, NYSDOT and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee unveiled a new public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of respecting flagging personnel. This year’s work zone safety campaign, “Flaggers have families too,” is designed to remind motorists that flagging personnel are not attempting to disrupt traffic – they are simply doing their jobs and want to get home safely at the end of each work day. The PSA can be viewed here and here.
