A Message from Supervisor Linda Puglisi: Covid

Release Date: May 17, 2021

May 2021

Hello, this is Linda Puglisi to say it’s been a very difficult and stressful year for everyone due to the Pandemic of Covid 19.  But, together our community has been able to get through these tough 15 months of the Covid virus.  Some of our people have had Covid and survived but we are saddened by those we have lost and extend our sympathy and prayers to those families.

It is also a time for us to reflect on the great work all of those on the frontlines have provided for us during this past year and continue to do so from hospital workers, to emergency service providers to those in the stores and delis’, postal workers, our government staff, the caregivers at nursing homes, teachers and so many others who helped guide us through this period when at times we thought “will there ever be light at the end of this dark tunnel”.

I am in awe of the scientists, researchers and companies that developed the vaccines for Covid 19 sooner than we ever expected.  I want to encourage everyone to get the vaccine, which will be the way back to our normal lives that we cherish.  I have received my vaccines, as well.

This pandemic is not over yet.  Only about half of Westchester County residents are vaccinated including our community. Just like in the days of polio, smallpox, tuberculosis, etc. the only way to overcome these diseases were the vaccines.

Therefore, we cannot let our guard down even though many aspects of our lives are being reopened by the CDC, New York State and health departments we still have to remain cautious and vigilant by wearing masks and social distance as precautions.

Our town has had 100% of its employees back in working for many months, they had rotated working for awhile remotely for several months at the beginning of this pandemic following the State’s executive orders.

Our goal was to maintain the good services that you all need and deserve and to keep our staff safe.  I thank all of our employees for their dedication to our community.  We will reopen our town pool and summer camp this year with new rules and regulations in accordance with the Health Department.  In addition, very soon we will dedicate our new bathhouse, snack bar and tennis courts at our town pool.  We are very excited to add them to our lovely pool campus. Check our websites for more details.

So, in closing, I want to thank everyone in Cortlandt for coming together during this difficult time and for helping each other.  As you probably know by now, I will be retiring at the end of this year.  I have loved being your Town Supervisor for 30 years.  I love this community and all of you.  Take care, be well and thank you for letting me come into your homes once again.
