Opening of Town Pool Delayed by Leak

Release Date: June 09, 2022

Unfortunately the opening of the Charles Cook Pool will have to be delayed due to ongoing issues with the underground plumbing resulting in a significant leak. We are hoping it can open the following week (still ahead of The County pools). After weeks of power washing, then painting the pool, the pool was initially filled, and then a mud-slide (due to the heavy rains) required the pool to be drained and then refilled. However, the water level could not be maintained. The source of the leak has been elusive and caused the town to hire outside leak detection companies. In addition, town staff worked diligently seven days per week, excavating the area around the filtration center. As you can see from the attached photos, excavation was time-consuming to avoid damage to the existing piping system. It should be pointed out that our staff was initially ahead of schedule, having begun repairs and renovation to the pool earlier than usual. However, the leak could not be detected until the pool was full and this could not be accomplished until the pool was fully painted and restored. So much for planning!! We apologize for these unanticipated issues with our aging pool and will continue to work aggressively to open the pool in a timely manner. We know how important our pool is to our residents, and we will do all we can to remedy this problem as soon as possible. It will be a great summer at the pool.
