Animal Warden/Parking Enforcement Officer

Town of Cortlandt – FT

The individual in this position is responsible for carrying out the dual function as the Animal Warden and Parking Enforcement Officer.  As Animal Warden, the individual in this positon is responsible for patrolling, picking up and transporting animals to an Animal Shelter, including impounding and disposing of stray and/or unlicensed animals. In addition, this position enforces the Agriculture and Markets Law and local municipal ordinances dealing with the general control of domestic animals.  As Parking Enforcement Officer, the incumbent in this position is responsible for patrolling (by foot or with a vehicle) in an assigned area or route and restricted parking areas for standing traffic violations and issuing summonses in accordance with Town and State ordinances.  Observes and issues tickets for any obvious parking violations such as unauthorized parking at a bus stop, loading zone; handicapped zone, crosswalk, or sidewalk.  An employee in this position must possess skill in handling small animals and be able to operate independently in the field, which may involve being outdoors exposed to varying weather conditions. The work is performed under general direction in accordance with established policies and procedures as set forth by the Director of Code Enforcement, Department of Technical Services. Keeps records of all activities; Uses computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar and e-mail in performing work assignments.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in handling animals, ability to interpret local codes and ordinances, ability to learn the procedures and regulations involved in the enforcement of the parking ordinances and other standing violations, experience working with computers including spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail.  Must possess a NYS Driver’s License with no citations. Salary commensurate with experience and educational background. Town of Cortlandt residents preferred.
