Got Photography Cortlandt Artist of the Week: Paul Quinn
This week’s featured artist is Paul Quinn. His black and white prints provide a rewarding counterpoint to the color photography included in this exhibition. Tonally rich, these prints render familiar scenes as extraordinary. A midnight sea captured in broad daylight, an ever-present enigmatic figure. The horizon line drawing the viewer beyond the current moment. All reminders that the present is fleeting.
“I like to observe my surroundings, looking for juxtaposition between the ordinary and the unusual. These moments are often fleeting and my aim is to capture them. This collection of photographs documents a once-vibrant community that has been diminishing slowly over time. I want to evoke the playful spirit of those times. The sunlight of a summer’s day at the beach is well suited to infrared photography, highlighting the contrasts that would normally be lost with a standard camera; contrasts that are evident both visually and contextually.” – Paul Quinn
