Towards Abstraction Artist: Mina Seetharaman
This week’s featured artist from the exhibition, Towards Abstraction, on view at Town Hall through August 3rd is Mina Seetharaman. Mina’s abstractions are the record of an artist’s dialogue with the work. Each action or mark is a response to what was laid down on the canvas before. Like Jazz musicians improvising off each other during a performance, Mina’s paintings are a delicate balance of chaos and order.
Mina Seetharaman is an abstract artist living in New York's Hudson Valley. For Mina, painting is about spontaneous experiments with color, flow, and composition. She often starts with an idea, and serendipity lands her in a very different place. So much of our lives is governed by rules, structure, constraints. She uses her artwork as a counter to this, a way of learning to find beauty and contentment in what she cannot wholly control.
