Notification from NY State DOT of Emergency Road Repairs on Goat Trail

Release Date: October 01, 2023

U.S. Route 6/State Route 202 (the Goat Trail) remains one lane in each direction with an alternating traffic signal at Roa Hook Road to facilitate the replacement of a culvert. This unexpected project required the replacement of the existing culvert with a bridge structure, which has been in the design process since July.

In the coming weeks, utility work will commence and is estimated to take up to two months to complete. Additionally, a New York State Department of Transportation contractor will soon mobilize on site. A temporary one lane bridge will also be installed in the eastbound lane to allow the contractor to work in stages and maintain traffic at all times, with the exception of some occasions when it will be necessary to close for short periods of time (weekday closures at night), for security reasons or shifts of stage. Advance notice of these closures will be distributed to stakeholders, the media and via variable messaging boards. This project has an anticipated substantial completion Summer 2024, weather permitting.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
