Cortlandt Fiber Arts: Arlene Tift
In its final weeks, Cortlandt Fiber Arts: A Contemporary Survey explores contemporary trends in fiber-based works. The transformation of raw fiber to a workable material offers an artist multiple entry points to make choices and effect the final composition through the medium. Arlene Tift is another fiber artist in the exhibition who hand dyes her wool to further the color palette of her compositions. No longer limited to commercially produced fibers Arlene’s works offer nuanced values and hue ranges, enriching the image and increasing its complexity.
“I’m a textile artist with a passion for painting with wool yarn and strips. Rug hooking is pulling one loop at a time to create the picture. I hand dye a lot of my wool to increase my palette. Commissions also accepted.” – Arlene Tift
