October at the YC

Parents check out what's happening at the YC this month for your kiddos!

October is going to be a ton of fun at the YC! Check out what’s going on below. (Programs are for youth in Grades 6th – 12th unless otherwise noted below in red.) 

All Month Long
Mondays: Open Gym at Hendrick Hudson High School (for HHSD residents only) 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM (closed: Monday, October 8) Must be registered YC participant.

Tuesday & Thursdays: Weight Room Open at 5 PM for weekly exercise.

Tuesdays, Wednesday & Friday: Canteen at the Community Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt Manor
Tues & Wed 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM & Fri: 8:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Youth are invited to join us at this Open Gym Basketball Program. Must be registered YC participants.

Fridays & Saturdays: CUE for High School Students ONLY 7:30 PM – 11:30 PM, 3131 E. Main Street, Mohegan Lake
This facility is designed for our high school youth were they can play a game of pool or Ping-Pong, watch TV, or just hang out with their friends. Renovations are in the works to include Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Free WIFI, Café and more! Look for these changes before the end of 2018!

Saturdays: Basketball Pointers at 7:00 PM
Are you planning to try out for the basketball team? Come practice at the YC and learn some great tips from a basketball coach so you are ready for tryouts. This FREE program is held outside on our basketball courts so dress appropriately.

Sundays: YC is open for youth in Grades 1st – 5th with adult supervision 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Every Sunday from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM the rock wall is open. Youth must be wearing sneakers and have a complete rock wall waiver on file.
*Rock Wall will be closed Sunday, October 7

 

October 1 - 6
Friday, October 5: Eight Ball Challenge 7:00 PM-8:30 PM for grades 6-8 and 8:30 PM-10 PM for grades 9-12
Are you ready to compete for the title of pool shark? The Eight Ball Challenge is an open competition which will feature partners and individual play, with prizes.


October 7 - 13
Sunday, October 7: Rock Wall Closed

Monday, October 8: Milkshake Monday 3:00 PM
Schools are closed, but the Youth Center will be opening early at 1:00 PM and youth can learn how to create their perfect milkshake!

Friday October 12: Our Friday Night Open Mic 8:00 PM
This tradition continues on. This event is for performers of all kinds: poets, singers, dancers, musicians or comedians. Not a performer, that’s okay! Share your art work, photography, or other talent. This a fun, judgment-free night. Register by 7:00 PM at the YC.


October 14-20
Sunday, October 14: Classic Game Day at 1:00 PM (Grades 1st – 5th with parent supervision)
We’ve got a special day for kids and their parents. Learn how to play all kinds of classic games (on a large scale) like connect four, tic-tac-toe, checkers, Chinese checkers, any card game and more!

Friday, October 19: DJ Night 7:00 PM- 10:00 PM $2 suggested donation for Breast Cancer
Tonight is a special night as we will be celebrating two things….
The YC Cancer Stompers will be fundraising for their Breast Cancer Walk taking place on the 21st. A $2 donation to join the party is suggested. They will also be selling snacks and raffle tickets for a 5’ Teddy Bear. $10 is suggested to partake in all the activities that evening.
We will also have an early Halloween Party. Costumes are optional, but must be appropriate. Youth with inappropriate costumes will need to change.


October 21-27
Sunday, October 21: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5 Mile Walk is taking place at Manhattanville College. If you/your family would like to join our team, the YC Cancer Stompers and walk with us and/or if you would like to make a donation to help us reach our fundraising goal of $1,000, please click here.
If you are interested in purchasing a raffle ticket for our 5’ Teddy Bear Hope, please stop by the YC between now and Sunday, October 21. 1 ticket = $5 5 tickets = $20 Winner will be notified by phone on the 21st.

Tuesday, October 23: Pre-K Art Class for youth ages 3.5 – 5 years old begins!
Our Young Rembrandts Instructor is back and ready to teach your little one how to draw. Kids will learn to draw familiar images like a duck and mittens while also learning fine motor skills, staying on task, patience, focus and listening. The course runs on Tuesdays through December 4 from 12:15 PM – 1:00 PM. Fee:  $101 with ID; $105 without ID; $125 for nonresidents. Click here to register.

October 28 – 31
Wednesday, October 31: YC is CLOSED because we’ll be celebrating Halloween over at the Community Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt Manor.
Families with kids pre-k – Grade 5 are welcome to join us for our Halloween Party from 6:00 PM-8:30 PM.  We’ll have trick or treating, games, contests, and even a chance to be on cable TV! It’s going to a Boo-tiful night!
