Got Art Cortlandt? Artist of the Week: Teri Siegel
Winter Beach, 2022
Watercolor on paper
8 ½ x 11 ¼ inches
The first time I tried watercolor painting was in high school. As a teen, I immediately fell in love with the medium. It seemed almost magical to me, particularly the way the colors blossomed and merged on paper with the touch of clean water. College, marriage, career and family followed creating an almost 45 year gap in painting. Then retirement happened and then the pandemic happened. Oddly, the two together have given me the time to rediscover watercolors.
I am fortunate enough to live in the Hudson Valley region of New York state. The scenery is inspiring in every season. The vast sky, the light between the trees, the reflections in the snow, and the abundance of water around every corner. There is never a shortage of inspiration to paint.
