Westchester Lake / Wallace Pond is located in northern Cortlandt between US 9 / Albany Post Road, Jean Drive and Ruth Road.  The pond is approximately 23 acres and is impounded by the Westchester Lake Dam.

Wallace Pond was first mapped in the late 19th Century and was used as an ice pond by the Wallace Ice Pond Company.  Surrounding land was owned by the Horton Ice Cream Company.  In the late 1950’s the land was purchased and redeveloped into a residential subdivision, aptly named Westchester Lake Subdivision.

Westchester Lake Dam is an approximately 134 foot long gravity dam constructed of stone masonry with a concrete cap with a maximum height of 10-ft.  The dam is owned privately by the homeowner’s association.  The pond, is owned by the Town of Cortlandt.

In 2017 a Water Quality Assessment was performed by Woodard & Curran a consultant engineering firm retained by the Town of Cortlandt.  The executive summary of the report can be downloaded HERE

Currently the Town is working cooperatively with the local community to address the New York State Department of Environmental Conservations concerns regarding the condition of the dam.  Below please find supporting documentation including past mailings.
